Development through Coffee

Historical reflection shows that large, sustained, migrations of people occur for one fundamental reason: to avoid starvation. Thousands of men, women and children have migrated north in an effort to survive and to send money back to their communities. This is not about a journey taken in search of the pot of gold at the end of the American rainbow. This is about a journey taken in search of the loaf of bread and the cup of beans so that life continues another day.

"Just Coffee" was created and operates on the core principles of just wages, just business practices, and just treatment for all. This is a deliberate effort to stem the migration northward. Based on the success of the Just Coffee programs a second fair trade coffee co-op has been organized. The Peace and Justice Center is supporting Fair Trade Coffee Farmers.
